Faith Whittlesey

Ambassador Whittlesey "serves as Chairman Emeritus of the American Swiss Foundation in New York, where she served as Chairman for 18 years. Mrs. Whittlesey is also a Member of the Board of Trustees of the Institute of World Politics, a graduate school of diplomacy and national security affairs in Washington, DC, for which she formerly served as Chairman for 6 years. She is a Member of the Board of Directors of Christian Freedom International, headquartered Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, an organization dedicated to assisting persecuted Christians around the world for which she also served as Chairman for 3 years. Ambassador Whittlesey also served as a U.S. delegate to the UN Conference on Small Arms and Light Weapons in 2001 and as an official adviser to U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton during the 2006 UN Conference on Small Arms and Light Weapons in New York City.

"Ambassador Whittlesey served as United States Ambassador to Switzerland twice, from 1981 to 1983, and again from 1985 to 1988 and, between tours, from 1983 to 1985, was a member of the Senior White House Staff directing the Office of Public Liaison in the Reagan Administration.

"Prior to her service at the federal level, Mrs. Whittlesey served as Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and as Special Assistant Attorney General in the Pennsylvania Department of Justice. She was also elected to the Pennsylvania Legislature for two terms. Later, she was elected for two terms to the Delaware County Council, the governing body of a large suburban county near the city of Philadelphia, where she served, alternately, as Council Vice Chairman and Chairman.

"A Phi Beta Kappa and cum laude graduate of Wells College in Aurora, New York, Mrs. Whittlesey holds a doctor of laws degree from the University of Pennsylvania. She has received three honorary doctorates and a Ford Foundation grant, to attend The Hague Academy of International Law in the Netherlands. She is a recipient of the Reagan Revolution Medal of Honor. In 2003, she also received the Stratton Prize at the Harvard Club in Boston in recognition of her work to promote American-Swiss friendship.
