Fuel Frontiers, a subsidiary of Washington, D.C.-based Nuclear Solutions, and Kentucky Fuel Associates, Inc. are planning 400 tonne per day coal-to-liquid diesel production facility in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky.[1] Muhlenberg County has designated $625,000 from its Coal Severance Allotment Program to development of the plant. The project could also receive up to $2.5 million in state grant money.[2]
On July 11, 2009, Fuel Frontiers and Kentucky Fuel Associates announced the acquisition of approximately 80 acres of land for the proposed coal-to-liquid diesel production facility.[3]
According to the Sierra Club, as of May 2011 there has been little development on Fuel Frontiers' proposal for the coal-to-liquids facility in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky: "To date, the company has not submitted an air permit application for the facility to the Kentucky Division for Air Quality."[3] The Sierra Club now categorizes the plant as cancelled.
