According to its website, the Future Cities Project (FCP) was "set up to critically explore issues around the city". Its director is Austin Williams, who previously ran the Transport Research Group (TRG), from which the FCP emerged, after the TRG organised a one-day "Future Cities" conference at the London School of Economics, sponsored by the Architects' Journal, but not the Cities Programme (despite belief that it was). Speakers at that conference included LM group luminaries such as Claire Fox, Phil Mullan, Daniel Ben-Ami, Sandy Starr and Ceri Dingle.
In February 2005, Williams organised another one-day conference in London, "the Future of London" at the Museum of London, and a "Future of Community festival" is planned for March 2006, featuring several members of the LM group, including Williams, Frank Furedi, Daniel Ben-Ami, James Woudhuysen, Claire Fox and Mike Fitzpatrick.
