{{#Badges:CoalSwarm}} According to the Bismarck Tribune, MDU in 2001 began planning a 500 MW power station at this site, which would have been associated with a new coal mine developed by Westmoreland Coal. MDU scaled the project down to 175 MW, and then left the project in favor of the Big Stone II project in South Dakota. More than $1.1 million in state coal development money has gone into the project.[1]
The air permit for the project expired at the end of August 2007.[2]
