George D. Woods
Biographical Information
"George D. Woods, an investment banker who served as president of the World Bank from 1963 to 1968, died yesterday at his home near Lisbon. Mr. Woods, who also had a home in Manhattan, was 81 years old. He was a founder and eventually chairman of the board of the First Boston Corporation, one of the nation's leading investment houses, and served as a director of numerous companies during his career. Long after Mr. Woods had turned over the leadership of the First Boston Corporation of New York, he maintained an office in New York and was sought out by executives around the world for consultation. Mr. Woods, a former director of The New York Times Company, was at his death one of three trustees of the Ochs Trust, which holds a controlling interest in The New York Times Company. The trust was established by Adolph S. Ochs, the publisher of The Times from 1896 until his death in 1935. The other trustees are Iphigene Ochs Sulzberger, Mr. Ochs's daughter, and her son, Arthur Ochs Sulzberger, the publisher of The Times. "[1]
