Greater Nile Petroleum Operating Company
Greater Nile Petroleum Operating Company (GNPOC) was incorporated June 18, 1997, "to operate as a petroleum company in Sudan. GNPOC is a joint operating company owned by CNPC of China (40%), PETRONAS of Malaysia (30%), ONGC of India (25%) and SUDAPET of Sudan (5%). Currently GNPOC produces more than 300,000 barrels of oil per day." [1]
The GNPOC concession "in Western Upper Nile includes the Unity and Heglig oilfields, the oldest producing oilfields in southern Sudan. It also includes El Toor, Toma South, El Nar, Talih, and Munga oil fields, and the more recently explored Timsa and Bamboo oilfields in Block 4. Civilian displacement started in the mid-1980s." [2]
