Location
The photo shows the three phases of the facility: Shajiao-A (on the left, with five units built from 1987-1993), Shajiao-B (in the center, with two units built in 1987), and Shajiao-C (on the right, with three units built in 1995 and 1996). The plant is located in Dongguan Prefecture, Guangdong Province.
Background on Plant
Shajiao power complex consists of three plants, Shajiao-A, B, and C. The entire plant has a total of ten operating units, totaling 3,970 MW, which were brought online between 1987 and 1996. Shajiao-A (3 x 210 MW, 2 x 330 MW, totaling 1,290 MW) is owned by Guangdong Yudean Group; Shajaio-B (2 x 350 MW, totaling 700 MW) is owned by Shenzhen Energy Group; and Shajiao-C (3 x 660 MW, totaling 1,980 MW) is owned by Guangdong Yudean Group.[1][2]
Shajiao-A Units 1-3 and Shajiao-B Units 1-2 are planned for retirement before 2020.[3]
Shajiao-A Unit 1 was retired in December 2018.[4] Shajiao-B Unit 2 was also retired in 2018.[5] Shajiao-B Unit 1 was retired in 2019.[6]
Description of Expansion
Guangdong Yudean Group was planning to build two additional coal-fired units at Shajiao A power plant, with a total planned capacity of 2,000 MW.[7]
However, there appear to be no developments on the new units since 2013, and they are likely abandoned.
2016: Nationwide Restrictions Imposed on Development of Coal-Fired Power Capacity
Due to new restrictions announced during 2016 by the National Energy Administration and the National Development and Reform Commission, further capacity expansions at this location appear to be on hold or cancelled. For details, see China's 2016 Restrictions on Development of Coal-Fired Power Capacity.
