Background on Plant

CHALCO has proposed a power station of 1,050 MW to support an aluminum plant in Pingguo County.[1] [2] [3] It is an expansion project of Pingguo Aluminum Smelter power station. The new captive power plant, along with the new aluminum smelter, is located at the west of Pingguo Aluminum Smelter.

In 2015, CHALCO, Guangxi Investment Co and Guangxi Baise Development Investment Group co-invested in "Guangxi Hualei New Material Company Ltd", which is developing a 400 thousand-ton aluminum water project with 3*350MW coal fired power units.[4] [5]

The aluminum water project was approved by the China NDRC in 2015.[6]

In 2016 the power plant was under construction and expected to be commissioned at the end of 2017.[7]

The power plant was commissioned in 2017 to 2018, along with the aluminum water project.[8][9]
