Guangzhou power station (广州发展集团广州发电厂) is a retired 265-megawatt (MW) coal-fired power plant in Guangdong Province, China.

Background on Plant

Guangzhou power station was first founded in 1935. Currently it is a five-unit coal-fired power plant with a total capacity of 265 MW. The units were commissioned from 1989 to 1997. The plant is owned by Guangzhou Power.

It is a co-generation power plant, supplying heat, cooling, and steam besides electricity generation. The plant is located in a populated urban area, and has long been opposed by the local residents for its pollution. It was scheduled to move away from the urban area, but the plan eventually was given up, reportedly due to lack of alternative power sources.

The city government has planned for its retirement during the 13th 5-year plan, which is before 2020.

The plant was retired on June 30, 2018.
