The map below shows the location of the plant, in Yongfu County, Guilin Prefecture, Guangxi Province.
Background on Plant
Guodian Yongfu power station is a two-unit coal-fired power plant with a total capacity of 640 MW in Guangxi Province. The first 2 x 142MW units were built in 1998, and retired in 2010. Units 3 & 4, totaling 640 MW, were completed between 2006 and 2007. The plant was originally owned by China Guodian.[1][2] It is a co-generation power plant.
Description of Expansion
There are plans to build Units 5 & 6, totaling 700 MW, cooperating with Électricité de France (EDF) to develop co-generation units. Commissioning was planned for 2015,[1][2][3] but the new units were among 15 coal projects cancelled by China's National Energy Administration (NEA) in September 2016.[4]
Ownership
On August 28, 2017, China's State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC) announced that China Guodian Corporation and Shenhua Group will be jointly restructured. Shenhua Group will become China National Energy Investment Group and will absorb China Guodian Corporation. It will be the largest power company in the world by installed capacity, as well as the world's largest coal producer.[5][6] The merger was completed on November 28, 2017.[7]
