Handan Cogen power station (国电邯郸热电) is a 600-megawatt (MW) coal-fired co-generation power plant in Hebei Province, China.

Background on Plant

Handan Cogen power station was founded in 1958. The first three phases with 10 units, totaling 146MW were retired in 2000 and 2009. The plant is currently operating 3 units with a total capacity of 660 MW, which were completed between 1997 and 2006. It is also supplying steam to the industrial companies and heat to the residential households in winter, besides the electricity generation. It was originally owned by Guodian.

Ownership

On August 28, 2017, China's State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC) announced that China Guodian Corporation and Shenhua Group will be jointly restructured. Shenhua Group will become China National Energy Investment Group and will absorb China Guodian Corporation. It will be the largest power company in the world by installed capacity, as well as the world's largest coal producer. The merger was completed on November 28, 2017.
