Heathgate Resources
Heathgate Resources Pty Ltd [1] is an affiliate of the American company General Atomics. [2]
Heathgate Resources was formed in 1990, and is the owner and operator of the Beverley Uranium Mine in northern South Australia. Beverley is Australia's third uranium mine and Australia's only operating in-situ leach mine.
Despite the fact that the current Australian Federal Government actively supports the development of new mines (in addition to existing mines Ranger, in the Northern Territory, (See Rio Tinto) and Olympic Dam (Roxby Downs) in South Australia (See BHP Billiton), Beverley is the only new mine to open in the past decade. Members of the Adnymathanha aboriginal community described the consultation process about the Beverley mine, which took place in the late 1990s, as top-down, divisive, and engineered to ‘disempower’ the Adnymathanha people that opposed the mine.
