Background

In March 2018, state power company MAHAGENCO applied for a terms of reference for an 800 MW ultra-supercritical pithead coal plant in Heoti village, Umred tehsil, Nagpur district, Maharashtra. The plant would be located at the site of a reclaimed coal mine. The source of water would be sewage water from Nagpur city. Coal would be sourced from four mines in the Umrer area.
