The map below shows the location where the plant would be built in Sanyangchuan, Weinan Town in Maiji District, Tianshui Prefecture, Gansu Province.
Background on Project
China Huaneng is sponsoring a coal-fired power station with a total planned capacity of 700 MW in Gansu Province. The project received the pass for preliminary work from the National Energy Bureau in 2014.[1] The same year, China Huaneng transferred its sponsorship of the project to China Huadian, due to a strategic adjustment of the company.[2]
China Huadian continued development of the plant until it was permitted for construction in March 2016.[3] It received EIA clearance in October 2016. It is a co-generation power plant, and will supply heating in winter to the nearby districts of Tianshui city besides electricity generation.[4]
Nationwide Restrictions Imposed on Development of Coal-Fired Power Capacity
In January 2017 China's National Energy Administration suspended over 100 planned and under-construction coal power projects, including Huaneng Tianshui. It is unclear when or if the projects will be revived.[5]
