The Huadian Turpan power station (华电吐鲁番发电公司一期) is a retired 270-megawatt (MW) coal-fired power station in Xinjiang province, China.

A 1,320-megawatt (MW) coal-fired expansion was proposed, also known as Huadian Toksun power station (华电吐鲁番发电公司二期), but the project has been abandoned. The proposal is different from the Huadian Turpan Cogen power station.

Location

The undated satellite photo below shows the proposed location for the plant in Toksun county.

Background on Plant

The plant's two units are 135 MW each and began operating in 2006. The plant is in Turpan prefecture and majority-owned by China Huadian.[1]

The two units were retired in October 2019.[2]

Expansion

In 2014 China Huadian's Xinjiang Huadian Power Generation Company signed a framework agreement with the Turpan Prefecture Government to build an additional two units of 350 MW each at the plant.[3] The feasibility study has been completed.[4]

2016: Nationwide Restrictions Imposed on Development of Coal-Fired Power Capacity

Due to new restrictions announced during 2016 by the National Energy Administration and the National Development and Reform Commission, further capacity expansions at this location appear to be on hold or cancelled.
