Background on Plant

The two existing coal-fired units of Huadian Wuhu power station, totaling 1,320 MW, were brought online in May 2008. The plant is owned by China Huadian.[2][3][4]

Description of Expansion

Huadian is planning to build two additional coal-fired units at this plant, with a total planned capacity of 2,000 MW. The project was announced in January 2013.[5] The sponsors applied for environmental clearance in 2015.[6]

Unit 3 received a construction permit from Anhui Provincial DRC in October 2015,[7] and began construction in 2016. It is planned for operation in 2018.[8][9] Construction on unit 4 was reported in 2016,[10] but seems unlikely, since the plant has not been permitted.

Unit 3 was commissioned in December 2018.[11]

As of December 2019 there have been no developments on Unit 4, and it appears to be shelved.
