Huadian Zhangwu power station (华电彰武发电厂新建项目) is a proposed 1,200-megawatt (MW) coal-fired power plant in Liaoning Province, China.

Background on Project

In 2008, China Huadian reported that it was planning to build a two-unit coal-fired power plant with a total planned capacity of 1,200 MW in Liaoning Province. The project received its permit from the Environmental Ministry in 2007. News reports in 2007 said that the project had received all the documents need for approval and was ready to get its permit from NDRC. But it did not receive the permit.

In 2011 the mayor of Fuxin traveled to Beijing to meet with the chief of Huadian on behalf of the project. Huadian responded that the Zhangwu project was its first priority in the Northeast area and that it would like to consider combining it with investments in wind power and coal mining.

As of 2015, there are no further news reports about the project on Huadian's website; rather, reports discuss the wind project in Zhangwu. The Provincial Five-Year Plan for the Reserve Project released in 2014 includes the project on its list, indicating that the project though probably unlikely may still be alive.
