Huaneng Zhalantun Cogen power station (华能呼伦贝尔能源开发安泰热电公司扎兰屯热电) is a 24-megawatt (MW) coal-fired power plant in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China.

A 700 MW expansion has been proposed.

Background on Plant

The existing power station consist of two 12 MW units, commissioned in 2005. It is owned by China Huaneng.

Description of Expansion

China Huaneng is seeking permitting for a 2 x 350 MW expansion.

Nationwide Restrictions Imposed on Development of Coal-Fired Power Capacity

In January 2017 China's National Energy Administration suspended over 100 planned and under-construction coal power projects with a total capacity of over 100GW in 13 provinces, including Huaneng Zhalantun. It is unclear when or if the projects will be revived.
