Background on Plant
Huanghua Cangzhou power station is a four-unit coal-fired power plant with a total capacity of 2,520 MW. The plant was completed between 2005 and 2009, and was originally owned by Shenhua.[1][2]
Huanghua Cangzhou power station is located within Huanghua Port area, which is also owned by Shenhua Guoup. Huanghua Port is the No.1 coal port in China. Its coal throughout reached 270 million tons in 2017. Huanghua Cangzhou power station was built on the artificial land and is using desalted sea water. The power plant features its "no fresh water consumption, no land occupation, and no coal source transportation".[3]
Ownership
On August 28, 2017, China's State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC) announced that China Guodian Corporation and Shenhua Group will be jointly restructured. Shenhua Group will become China National Energy Investment Group and will absorb China Guodian Corporation. It will be the largest power company in the world by installed capacity, as well as the world's largest coal producer.[4][5] The merger was completed on November 28, 2017.[6]
