Background on Project

Inner Mongolia Huineng Coal Electricity Group is seeking approval for a 2 x 660 MW ultra-supercritical coal plant in Weijiamao town.[1][2] It was planned for operation in 2017.[3]

In October 2017 the power station was permitted for construction. It will support electricity transmission from Xilingol to Tianjin. As a power export project, it is likely exempted from restrictions on new coal plants under China's "red light" policy.[4][5]

In August 2018 it was reported that construction had begun.[6]
