Coal power projects
India Cements is currently building the Banswara Cement power station, a 20MW unit, to supply power to the Banswara Cement plant in Rajasthan.[2]
India Cements has also been reported as having bought a coal mine in Indonesia for $20 million. The mine is expected to go onstream by January 2012. "The coal mine acquisition is a strategic decision, it will reduce our exposure to the fluctuating coal price internationally," said N Srinivasan, vice chairman and managing director, India Cements told the Business Standard. Approximately half of the company's coal demand is currently imported.[3]
It was also reported that India Cements are "in the process of setting up a 50 Megawatt power plant near Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu."[3]
