The Institute for Private Enterprise (IPE) is a small think tank based in Melbourne, Australia that aims "to promote the cause of private enterprise and to argue for a reduction in the role of government." [1]

History

The IPE was established by Des Moore in 1996 after he left the Institute of Public Affairs.

A major focus of Moore's work at the IPE has been championing "labour market deregulation". While the Howard government has passed far-reaching legislation to restrict the ability of unions to organise, collectively bargain and take strike action, Moore complains that the changes don't go far enough. The legislation, he complained, "continues to severely constrain" the freedom of employers to negotiate arrangements that suit them best. [2]
