J. Andreas Hipple

Andreas Hipple "currently serves as Acting Executive Director of the Center for Interfaith Action on Global Poverty (CIFA), an initiative founded by Ed Scott in September 2008 which aims to increase the collective impact of the religious sector on global poverty and disease. CIFA supports interfaith leaders in Africa and the US in their efforts to scale up collaborations with national governments and other partners against disease and poverty. CIFA mobilizes new technical and financial resources for the faith community, advocates on behalf of the religious sector, and supports efforts to improve the quality of data about faith-based care.

"Andreas has over a decade of experience working on international development issues ranging from monitoring and evaluation, project design, public-private partnerships, governance and decentralization, and microfinance. As an independent consultant for five years prior to joining CIFA in August 2009, Andreas provided services to clients including the U.S. State Department, USAID, the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), Chevron, International Resources Group (IRG), Development Alternatives Inc. (DAI), Arabella Philanthropic Investment Advisors, Wise Solutions LLC, and numerous other private and philanthropic clients. His consulting experience includes managing a major independent evaluation of the Center for Global Development on behalf of the Gates, Hewlett, MacArthur, and Rockefeller Foundations for Arabella Advisors; this ground-breaking evaluation informed over $10 million of grants.

"His background includes two years as a small enterprise development advisor for the Peace Corps in northern Benin, as well as significant travel, study, and work in countries including Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, South Africa, and Zimbabwe. He has traveled extensively in Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and elsewhere.

"Andreas speaks fluent French and Swedish, excellent German, and intermediate Portuguese. He earned his B.A. in Economics from Carleton College, an M.A. (honors) in International Relations – with concentrations in Conflict Management, African Studies, and International Economics – from the Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), and is completing his Ph.D. in SAIS’s international development program. He was an Africanist Doctoral Fellow at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in 2007."
