Background on Plant

Sintex Power has proposed setting up a 2 × 660 MW super-critical coal-based power station, as well as a 400 MW gas-based plant, near the villages of Lunsapur, Mithapur, and Kagvadar, in Gujarat. The expected land requirement is 600 acres, and the coal requirement 6.36 million metric tons annually.

A draft Environmental Impact Assessment for the Lunsapur power station was released in 2012.

This project appears to be related to Lunsapur power station, which failed to progress after receiving a ToR in 2010. (The two projects are in the same town and are the same town. Lunsapur was sponsored by "Patel Energy"--Dinesh Patel is the chairman of Sintex Power.)

The project is not mentioned in the company's 2013-4 annual report, and as of May 2016 the project has not received environmental clearance.

As shown on videos posted on social media sites, citizens used the occasion of a public hearing on August 01, 2012 to demonstrate their opposition to the project.
