James C Miller III
James C. Miller III was most famous as a Reagan Administration appointment to head the OMB's Regulatory Relief Task Force, then the Federal Trade Commission, and later returning to run the Office of Management and Budget.
Since that time he has been Chairman of the Board of Citizens for a Sound Economy and a John M. Olin Distinguished Fellow at Citizens for a Sound Economy Foundation (Washington, D.C. economic advocacy and research groups, respectively).
Also the Co-Chairman of the Tax Foundation (research institution) and John M. Olin Distinguished Fellow at the Center for Study of Public Choice at George Mason University (the nominal home of the Cash-for-Comments Economists Network run by the tobacco industry. In addition, he is a lecturer in economics at George Mason, a Vice President of the Southern Economic Association, a member of the Administrative Conference of the United States, a member of the Board of Visitors of the U.S. Air Force Academy, a Senior Fellow (by courtesy) of the gung-ho Hoover Institution (Stanford University), and a member of the editorial boards of two journals, Regulation and the Journal of Regulation and Social Costs.
Miller is involved in several business endeavors. He is Chairman of the Advisory Board of Capital Economics (Washington consulting firm associated with Howrey & Simon law firm). He is also Chairman of the Board of Economic Impact Analysts (family-held consulting firm), a Senior Advisor to Denman & Partners (Washington consulting firm), a Member of the Board of Ameribanc Investors Group, a Member of the Board of Goulds Pumps, Inc., a Member of the Board of The Union Corporation, a Member of the Board of United Shareholders Association, a Member of the Advisory Board to Washington Mutual Investors Fund, and a consultant to UBS Asset Management, Inc. His life must be a perpetual round of board meetings and think-tank conspiracies!
From October, 1985 to October, 1988, Miller was Director of the Office of Management and Budget and a member of President Reagan's Cabinet. From October, 1981 to October, 1985, he was Chairman of the Federal Trade Commission. And from January, 1981 to October, 1981, he served simultaneously as OMB Administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) and Executive Director of the Presidential Task Force on Regulatory Relief, chaired by Vice President George HW Bush.
The holder of a Ph.D in economics (University of Virginia, 1969), Miller is the author of over 100 articles in professional journals and is the author, co-author, or editor of seven books (often published by the American Enterprise Institute. [1]
