It serves its thousands of customers through an extensive, integrated network of 14 mills, 105 corrugated converting operations, and 29 recycling plants. The company is a merger of Jefferson Smurfit, a major recycler of used newspaper and paper and acquired by Madison Dearborn Partners, and Stone Container.[1] Rock-Tenn (NYSE: RKT) bought the company in a $3.5 billion deal that closed in May 2011.
