Jerold M. Starr, "an activist and award-winning sociologist, is founder and executive director of Citizens for Independent Public Broadcasting, an organization established to promote noncommercial broadcasting in the service of the public interest." [1]

"In April, 1984, Jerold M. Starr announced the establishment of the Center for Social Studies Education, after trying, unsuccessfully, to find enough supplemental curriculum materials to teach a course on the Vietnam War." [2]
