Background

In May 2014, Nishat Power Limited signed a letter of interest with Punjab Power Development Board (PPDB) for setting up a 660 MW coal plant in Jhang. The project will be sponsored by a consortium comprising Nihsat Mills Limited, Lalpir Power Limited, and Pakgen Power Limited.

The plant is one of two 660 MW plants proposed for Jhang. The other is Jhang Nishat Chunian power station, sponsored by Nihsat Chunain Limited, DG Khan Cement Company Limited, and Adamjee Insurance Company Limited. The Energy Department will help with land acquisition for both projects.

In June 2016, the Jhang Nishat Chunian power station project was cancelled by Nishat, citing "logistics issues." At the time, an analyst speculated that the Jhang Nishat Mills project would likely face the same logistical issues; however, there has been no news on whether or not the Nishat Mills project is still moving forward.

As of June 2018, there have been no reports of this project moving forward in over two years, and the project is not mentioned on the Nishat Power website. It appears to be abandoned.
