Background on Plant

Jianbi power station was a fourteen-unit coal-fired power plant with a total capacity of 4,405 MW in Jiangsu Province. Units 1-6 total 425 MW. Units 7-12, totaling 1,980 MW, were completed between 1979 and 2004. Units 13 & 14, totaling 2,000 MW, were completed in 2012. The plant was originally owned by China Guodian.[1]

Units 1-10 were all retired in 2017, leaving 2,660 MW operating.[2]

Proposed expansion

Two new units, each 1200 MW, have been proposed at the same location.[3]

However, with no developments since March 2014, the project appears to be abandoned.

Ownership

On August 28, 2017, China's State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC) announced that China Guodian Corporation and Shenhua Group will be jointly restructured. Shenhua Group will become China National Energy Investment Group and will absorb China Guodian Corporation. It will be the largest power company in the world by installed capacity, as well as the world's largest coal producer.[4][5] The merger was completed on November 28, 2017.[6]
