John Cunningham Lilly (January 6, 1915 – September 30, 2001) was an American physician, neuroscientist, psychoanalyst, psychonaut, philosopher and writer. He was a researcher of the nature of consciousness using mainly isolation tanks, dolphin communication, and psychedelic drugs, sometimes in combination. wiki

"He is the author of many books, including The Center of the Cyclone and The Scientist, hundreds of scientific articles, and was the prototype for two feature films, Altered States and The Day of the Dolphin. He invented the isolation tank in the 1950's, and explored the effects of LSD and Ketamine in the solitude of the tank. His guidelines for using psychedelics appear in his work Programming and Metaprogramming in the Human Biocomputer." [1]
