John Marjoram
A report from 2007 noted that "Cllr Marjoram presides over a Green party majority on the STC after the Green's increased representation by two seats to take 11 of the 18 town council seats at the May 3 election. He was elected unopposed as Mayor, taking over from fellow Green councillor, Kevin Cranston. ..Stroud Town Council has eighteen members, eleven of whom are Greens, five Independents, one Lib Dem and one Tory. John Marjoram was previously the town's mayor from 1997 to 2004. " [1]
A report from 2012 noted that "STROUD mayor John Marjoram has been told he will no longer stand trial for refusing to complete his census form. The Crown Prosecution Service informed Mr Marjoram it was dropping the case against him due to a lack of enough evidence ‘to provide a realistic prospect of conviction.’ The Green Party councillor and Quaker appeared at Bristol Magistrates’ Court in February charged with failing to return the form – a criminal offence under the Census Act 1920... Quakers across the Five Valleys also boycotted the forms last May, including SDC Green councillor Dr Molly Scott Cato and Martin Large, owner of Stroud publisher Hawthorn Press but no other prosecutions have been brought in the area.
