John R. Clarke is Vice Chair of the American Council of Learned Societies and "is Annie Laurie Howard Regents Professor of Fine Arts in the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Texas at Austin. In the seven years after he received his doctorate in Art History at Yale University, he taught at the University of Michigan, the University of California, San Diego, and Yale. ... Clarke has served on the Board of Directors of the College Art Association for nine years, and was President 1998-2000." [1]
