Jonathan Morgenstein
Jonathan Morgenstein "joined USIP [United States Institute of Peace] in October 2005 as a program officer in the Professional Training program.
"Immediately prior to joining the Institute, he conducted an assessment of the African Union peacekeeping force in Darfur, Sudan, for Refugees International.
"Before that assignment, he served as a Marine Corps civil affairs officer in Ramadi, Iraq, for seven months. During his fourteen-year career in the Marine Corps Reserve, he served as an analyst for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Iraqi Working Group at the Pentagon and as a peacekeeper with NATO’s Stabilisation Force in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where he helped repatriate the first Muslim returnees to Srebrenica.
"As a civilian, Morgenstein worked with a Macedonian nongovernmental organization (NGO) in Djakovica/Gjakova, Kosovo, and as a human rights observer with CONAI, a Catholic NGO, in Chiapas, Mexico. He also spent three-and-a-half years teaching social studies and coaching football for high schools in New Hampshire and San Francisco. Morgenstein has spoken at Stanford University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the State Department, and on Capitol Hill, and has been interviewed on the Newshour with Jim Lehrer regarding issues of conflict, peacekeeping, and postconflict reconstruction and development.
"Jonathan earned his B.A. in government from Cornell University, and holds a master’s in teaching from the University of New Hampshire and a master’s in international policy studies from Stanford University." [1]
