Julian C. Holmes
Julian C. Holmes, a "Maine native, is a retired atmospheric physicist who spent much of his adult life in Washington DC and Prince George's County, Maryland. An environmentalist, he investigated the role of public officials in the enforcement of health and safety laws, and with the support of a courageous local newspaper editor, Holmes and fellow citizens obtained indictments of Maryland health officials. [1]
"Holmes and his associates pursued wrongdoing in both federal and local government; several targets of their investigations were eventually convicted of federal crimes. Holmes has appeared before numerous grand juries, and in testimony before the United States Senate Judiciary Committee, he and colleague Marian Agnew asked that the Senate protect the right of citizens to request appearance before federal grand juries -- a right that was threatened by an ultimately unsuccessful proposal to abolish it. [2]
"In Maine, Holmes has advocated opening up heretofore restricted meetings of Maine and Federal officials so that citizens may attend. [3]
"Holmes was born in Portland, Maine and lived in Brunswick prior to his employment at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) in Washington, DC. He resides in Wayne." [4]
"Julian C. Holmes was born in 1930 and received his A.B. in physics from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, in 1951. He joined Charles Y. Johnson at the NRL in 1956 as a Physicist." [5]
