Junliangcheng power station (华电天津军粮城发电厂五期) is a 1,050-megawatt (MW) coal-fired power plant in Tianjin Municipality, China.

Background on Plant

Described as a "50-year-old plant," Junliangcheng power station now comprises two units, units 9-10, with a total capacity of 700 MW in Tianjin Municipality. The two units were built in 2010. The first eight units, commissioned from 1961 to 1993, have been retired. The plant is majority-owned by China Huadian.

Proposed expansion

A 2 x 350 MW supercritical expansion is proposed to replace subcritical units 5-8 (totaling 840 MW).

In August 2017 a 350 MW supercritical coal-fired heating unit and a 650 MW gas-steam combined cycle heating unit were permitted for construction. The coal unit is planned for construction in July 2017 and operation in October 2018. The second coal unit therefore appears to be cancelled.

Both the coal and gas-fired units were commissioned in November 2019.
