Kamla Chowdhry
Kamla Chowdhry (deceased) Co-Chair, Global Peace Initiative of Women.
"With the death of Dr. Kamla Chowdhry in January of 2006, the Global Peace Initiative of Women lost a woman of great wisdom. She was a founding member of the Global Peace Initiative of Women and we relied on her guidance and experience. She worked most of her life in support of those less fortunate and helped to build institutions of rural management and was deeply involved with environmental concerns related to degraded lands, deforestation, and watershed. She knew the importance of culture, dharma, and sustainable development. She was a member of UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan's Eminent Persons Advisory Group for Sustainable Development in preparation for Rio +10 and contributed much to the Earth Charter Initiative. She was a true Gandhian and student of Mahatma Gandhi and an ardent proponent of non-violence. GPIW is currently preparing a book to honor her and her work for humanity." [1]
