Katarina Mathernova
Katarína Mathernová "is a Senior Private Sector Development Specialist in the Investment Climate Department of the World Bank, where she focuses on access to credit, secured transactions and creditor rights and the economic reform processes. Ms. Mathernová is no stranger to the World Bank: between 1993 and 1998, she was Senior Counsel in the Legal Reform and Advisory Services Unit and, before that, counsel in the Europe and Central Asia Division. She took a leave of absence from the World Bank in order to work as a senior associate in the corporate finance practice area of Shearman & Sterling (1998-1999) and to serve as the Chief Institutional and Policy Advisor to the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs in Slovakia (1999-2002). While in Slovakia, Ms. Mathernová was involved in most of the structural and institutional reforms that took place at that time, including bank and enterprise restructuring and privatization and reform of the collateral system.
"Ms. Mathernová is the Honorary President and co-founder of the Institutional and Economic Reform Institute of Bratislava. She also serves as a board member of the Institute for Public Affairs, Bratislava, since 1995, and of the Foundation for a Civil Society, New York, since 1992. She has published extensively on legal reform in Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
"Ms. Mathernová's academic career includes an international policy fellowship with the Open Society Institute of Budapest, Hungary (2002), and appointment as a German Marshall Fund Fellow in North Carolina (2001). She received her LL.M. from the University of Michigan and her Juris Doctor with highest honors from the Comenius University Law School in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia." [1]
