Kelvin H. Taketa
Kelvin H. Taketa "is the President and Chief Executive Officer at the Hawaii Community Foundation, a position he has held since 1998. The Hawaii Community Foundation is a statewide, publicly supported grantmaking organization endowed with permanent funds that carries out its grantmaking program in several key areas: culture and arts, education, health and human services, community development, natural resources conservation, and youth development. With assets exceeding $284 million, the Foundation is among the 30 largest of more than 600 community foundations across the country. It distributes more than $23 million in grants to Hawaii's nonprofit organizations annually. Taketa also has served in various capacities with The Nature Conservancy, most recently as its Vice President/Executive Director of the Asia/Pacific Region responsible for community enterprise development, volunteer recruitment, staff leadership and team building, fundraising, and alliances with major institutions such as the World Bank. He serves on the boards of several business and nonprofit agencies, including Hawaiian Electric Industries, Hawaiian Electric Industries Power Corporation, Sustainable Forestry Resources, LLP, and the Ho'okupu Fund. Born and raised in Hawaii, he received his J.D. degree from the University of California's Hastings College of Law.“ [1]
