In 2003, the Age described Trevor Kennedy as Mr Packer's "right-hand man." The article went on to say: "Fairfax launched The National Times in 1972 with Mr Kennedy, then 29, its first editor. ... The networks took off the following year when Sir Frank Packer, Kerry's father, hired Mr Kennedy to edit and reinvigorate The Bulletin magazine. During the next 20 years, Mr Kennedy rose to become chief executive of Consolidated Press Holdings, the Packer empire that Kerry took over after his father's death in 1974. These were Kerry Packer's years of building his enormous fortune. Partly through Mr Kennedy's influence from his personal links with the NSW Labor Party Right, of which Graham Richardson was a "godfather", Mr Packer flirted with Labor during the 1980s Hawke governments. This put Mr Kennedy at the centre of a formidable power base." [1]
His only daughter is Gretel Packer.
