Location
The undated satellite photo below shows the village of Khambar, Raigarh district, Chhattisgarh state, India as the location where the plant will be built. Area is identified in the Environmental Impact Assessment for the project.[1]
Background
The project has been proposed by AES Chhattisgarh Energy, a wholly owned subsidiary of AES, the US headquartered power utility. The company is proposing to build the power station in Chhattisgarh, India. A 2007 news report stated that the project was "expected to be commissioned by 2011-12."[2] However, a November 2011 AES profile on its current and projected generation assets does not mention the project, and it appears to have been abandoned.[3]
Coal supply
In a 2008 document on the project AES Chhattisgarh Energy stated that it had been "allotted Sayang coal block Mand Raigarh coalfield in the state of Chhattisgarh for captive mining of coal by Ministry of Coal, Government of India. The identified coal block is within a distance of 20 km from the proposed project site."[1]
