Location
The undated satellite photo below shows the power station in Kladno.
Background
The power station consists of two subcritical coal units of 135.3 MW each that began operating in 2000, and a 28 MW and 6.3 MW coal unit that were retired in 2014. The plant also contains two gas turbines.[1][2]
Expansion
In 2011 construction began on a new 135 MW coal unit at the plant, known as K7, which went into operation in 2014. The new unit replaced the power station's first two units of 34.3 MW, which would no longer meet the new EU guidelines on CO2 emissions that came into force on January 1, 2016.[3]
The plant now contains three 135.3 MW coal-burning units,[4] for a combined capacity of 406 MW.[5]
