Komarada power station is a proposed coal plant in Andhra Pradesh, India.

Background
Komarada power station is a 2,640 megawatt (MW) coal plant proposed by Alfa Infraprop Pvt. Ltd. (AIPL) in Andhra Pradesh.[1]
An August 2010 notice seeking expressions of interest in the project cryptically stated that "AIPL is a company promoted by promoters of one of the largest corporate companies in India who is also the second largest in India in its business line having market capitalization value of US dollars seven billion." The advertisement names a director of Alfa Infrapop as being Vidyasagar Tulluri.[2]
The deadline for the initial expressions of interest was November 15, 2010. In a subsequent 2011 note Alfa Infraprop stated that the initial response was "inadequate" and re-advertised for expressions of interest in the project with a deadline for bids by May 31, 2011.[2]
Temporary permit suspension
On December 12, 2013, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) suspended the environmental clearance granted by the Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF) for setting up the power station, as the MoEF "has not made proper appraisal by considering the available materials and objections in order to make proper evaluation of the project before making a recommendation for grant of EC."
The NGT directed that the Environmental Clearance be kept under suspension for a period of six months within which time a reappraisal of the project should be done by the MoEF.[3]
2015: Permit renewed
In June 2015 the India MoEF renewed environmental clearance for the plant.[4]
June 2019: No construction
As of June 2019 the project has not begun construction, and plans appear to be deferred or abandoned.
Public opposition
Villagers detail police personnel following demonstration and arrests
On June 9, 2012, hundreds of villagers rallied at Kotipam village in Komarada mandal to obstruct the fencing works for the proposed Komarada power station. In response, about 200 police personnel arrived and made preventative arrests of several party leaders. In retaliation, villagers detained police personnel for hours before release them. Locals opposing the plant said that the project falls in a tribal sub-plan area. In addition, the project overlaps the irrigation area of the Vanakabaadi Gedda reservoir.[5]
