Location
The map below shows the location of the Korba mines, near Korba city, Korba district, Chhattisgarh state. The three large surface mines are located to the west of the Hasdeo River: Gevra furthest to the west, Kusmunda furthest to the east, and Dipka in the middle.
Background on Mine
The 83 million ton-per-annum Korba coal mine are owned by South Eastern Coalfields Limited (a subsidiary of state-owned Coal India). The three largest mines are all surface mines: Gevra (35 MTPA capacity), Dipka (25 MTPA), and Kusmunda (18.75 MTPA); the smaller Korba surface/underground mines are also included.[1][2] The mines sit on a coalfield of 11.7 billion tons.[3]
Coal mines in the surrounding area include Korba Thermal Power station, NTPC Korba Super Thermal Power Station, Korba South Thermal Power Project, BALCO Korba power station, and Hasdeo Thermal Power Station.
