Kumarian Press "was founded in 1977 by Krishna Sondhi, President and Publisher, and Ian Mayo-Smith, Vice President. With one of the co-founders from Africa and the other having lived and worked extensively in developing countries, they set up Kumarian to respond to the expressed need for books on international development and management that were geared to the needs of developing countries. The name Kumarian is coined from a combination of Krishna's middle name, KUMARI, and IAN." [1]
