Background
In July 2018, it was reported that UK-based Sloane Energy Group planned to build a coal plant in Cesar Department, Colombia. It will consist of three ultra-supercritical coal-fired units of 375MW each. Coal will be produced at Sloane's adjacent La Luna coal mine, where production will begin in late 2019. Sloane plans to award an engineering, procurement and construction contract by the end of 2018. It is planned for operation in 2022.[1] In June 2018 the National Environmental Licenses Authority (Anla) granted the project its environmental license.[2] The plant was permitted in September 2019 and construction is scheduled to begin in April 2020.[3]
