Background
In July 2014, the chief minister of Punjab said the government was planning to build 110 MW coal power plants (2 x 55 MW) near industrial load centers in seven big cities: Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Gujrat, Multan and Lahore. The coal plant in Lahore would consist of four 2 x 55 MW coal plants in Sundar Industrial Estate and M-3 Industrial Estate in Faisalabad. [1]
In July 2015 the Punjab government told the Lahore High Court the project had been scrapped and a notification to this effect would be issued soon. The project had been challenged for its proximity to residential areas.[2]
