Background

In 2015, Mota-Engil announced an intent to build a combined cycle power plant at Complexo Industrial - Central Termoelétrica Ing. Jorge Luque Loyola (“CTE JLL”) that would produce up to 1,700 MW.[1][3] The site contains a deactivated power plant.

Mota-Engil will build the first 100 MW to begin operating by March 2020 and the other 1600 MW will be "gradually realized" as investments of approximately 30 billion pesos (1.3 billion euros) come in.[4] Construction is underway, as components were delivered in December 2018[4] and November 2019.[2]
