Location
The map below shows the approximate location where the plant would be built, at the coal basin of Maoče, about 15 km from the town of Pljevlja.
Background
In 2010 the Ministry of Economy of Montenegro invited applications for "exploitation of coal in the Maoce basin, the Pljevlja Municipality, conditioned by the construction of a thermal power plant of the estimated capacity of 500MW."[1]
Platts estimates that the planned Maoce plant will cost an estimated €560 million.[2]
In 2012 Power Engineering reported that China's Gezhouba Group planned to develop a 350 MW plant at the nearby Maoce coal field and to "improve mines" for both the Maoce power station and the proposed Pljevlja II Power Station, which the company had also bid to construct.[2]
However, the 2014 Energy Development Strategy for Montenegro until 2030 indicates that there is no need for this power plant until 2030.[3]
