Background

The plant is proposed to be located at Marakkanam town near Pondicherry in Villupuram district, Tamil Nadu, India.

NTPC originally proposed that the Marakkanam Super Thermal Power Project be 4,000 MW, but the terms of reference permit was for a 2,000 MW power station.

There has been no progress on the power station since receiving a terms of reference in 2010, and the project appears to be abandoned.
