Background

Maturi power station is a proposed 200 MW coal plant in Maturi listed in Table 1 of the African Affairs journal article "Competing energy narratives in Tanzania: Towards the political economy of coal" by Thabit Jacob. According to a note attached to the table, the information is based on "field visits and interviews with government officials in March–August 2016." The table states that Maturi has coal reserves of 50 million tonnes. The project is sponsored by Off Routes, a Tanzanian-UK company.[1] There appears to be no other online reference to this project.

As of December 2019, there have been no development updates and the project is presumed to be shelved.
